In 2014 the Alabama Peace Officers' Standards and Grooming Commission (Commission) modified the didactics requirements for police enforcement officeholder applicants to include the requirement of the bidder completing a Commission canonical Basic Power Test (BAT) composed and administered past the Alabama Customs College System (ACCS). Should an applicant fail any of the three (3) segments, s/he is immune to re-accept the failed segment for an additional fee of $15 per segment. It is important when scheduling the exam that the applicant specify whether the examination is the ACT WorkKeys Assessment for a Law Enforcement Officer position.

The ACT WorkKeys Cess is also available nationwide. Subject to the employing agency's approving, out-of-land applicants may accept the ACT WorkKeys Cess (BAT) in their home state provided proper documentation of a valid test event is submitted to both the employing agency and APOSTC. Applicants in need of assistance with the successful completion of the BAT can enroll now.

In addition to possession of a valid high school diploma or GED certificate, the BAT is required of all applicants except those applicants who are already APOSTC certified and who are required to complete the Refresher training for reinstatement of their Certification, or, those applicants possessing an earned Associate's Caste or higher Degree from a College or Academy accredited past the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS), or its regional equivalent.
